@PaulC The golden color of the matrix wouldn’t radically change across the span of one cab. And the location of the black indicates that the area in question is exposed Devcon backing, as posters above have mentioned.

Confirmed. It’s Devcon and not matrix. The cab started out as a wedge shape with the thinnest area being exposed at the edge during cutting. You see this from time to time especially with lower quality treated material being cut for yield which is exactly what this particular stone is.
