Amerindien site online

I can’t access the https://www.art-amerindien.com site today. Anyone else experiencing that? One message returned is: This site can’t provide a secure connection. On another search attempt, I got: Amerindien.com may be for sale. :woman_shrugging:

I got the same message.

Can confirm this, just tried. As I recall its content hadn’t been updated for years.

I was able to access this @ 3:11p today. When I use your link it didn’t work. When I pulled it up I did a search for Native American hallmarks.

@here4turquoise Hi ~ I just tried to access the site again using a search for “Native American hallmarks”. I’m still unable to access this site online. The same message is returned about no secure connection can be provided. :woman_shrugging:

DuckDuckGo works……….

I’m familiar with DuckDuckGo so I tried that route. I was able to access the site but, the URL has a warning symbol. Clicking on the “Details” it indicates that the connection for this site is not secure and is not encrypted. Being married to a computer programmer, I’ve learned how to be more cautious online. I’ll no longer be visiting this site but, I understand that everyone should make that decision for themselves.

Very frustrating. But maybe this will finally push me to buy one of the expensive books that a lot of you so graciously share info from (although not yet, just spent a bit too much this past holiday weekend ).

If I can’t access it on Google, it’s worthless to me. I’m somewhat clueless, so don’t use the other search engines.

Like Patina, I don’t want to risk it either. We had our credit card hacked twice a couple years ago which made me extra careful.

In my opinion it hasn’t been that useful a site because of big gaps in updating, and generally not the place to see info and marks of makers who are relatively newer to the marketplace. In contrast I’ve gotten a lot of value out of Hougart’s, with Schaaf’s volumes being a fallback–a valuable set on its own because of bio detail and nice photos of jewelry.

I know you are right, it just always feels like it’s a lot of money to spend on books; I seldom buy books anymore, because we have so many that I’m trying to downsize. I’m assuming the most recent would be an updated addition? And if I’m going to buy one, would you recommend the Hougarts first?

Stick with Hougart’s, it’s the most reliable and complete. I have just the Hougart’s 4th ed. Buying secondhand takes the sting out a little.

I agree 100% with @chicfarmer’s comment. I bought a pre-owned copy of Hougart’s 3rd edition online. Paid around $38 for it. No joke - it looked brand new when delivered, like it had never been used. (It doesn’t look new anymore, lol. It’s always at my side whenever I’m looking @ NA jewelry.)

I’ll have to try to order one soon. If for no other reason than without one I will be no help with the dozens of people that join every week wanting to know what their hallmark is

You can still get to a cached copy of the Amerindian site via the Wayback Machine (webarchive.org).

Here’s the cached copy of the jewellery marks subsection, as of January 2025:

It seems to be working again! Yay

I just had a reply from the webmaster, Alain. The site just updated the James McCabe hallmark I emailed to them back in July 2025.
