I recently acquired this vintage sterling silver bolo tie and am trying to identify the maker.
The bolo is marked “RM” with a distinctive wing/stepped-line design on either side of the initials, with “STERLING” underneath.
The front features an intricate geometric channel inlay incorporating what appears to be turquoise, lapis lazuli and spiny oyster shell, along with substantial hand-stamped/repoussé-style silverwork.
I have been unable to positively identify the maker from the hallmark references I’ve consulted. I have seen the RM mark attributed to different makers online, but I don’t want to make an unsupported attribution.
Nice channel inlay. There is only stampwork. No repousse’. Without provenance, an identifiable documented hallmark accompanied by a significant body of identifiable matching work and style, or verifiable paper trail back to the original maker, there is nothing to indicate who actually made this, where it was made, or the national origin and ethnicity of the maker.
Could’ve been made by anyone, anywhere in the world.
Have you checked the Hougart’s books for a matching makers stamp?
