Can anyone help identify this stone?

My mother got this ring in Laguna Beach Ca. in the 1970’s, and recently gave it to me. You can see the stone is pretty greenish. It also has a big patch of grey matrix with teeny specks of metal (maybe silver?) I can’t see any signature or hallmark. I’d love to know it’s origin.

I should’ve taken the other rings off.

Beautiful ring. The date tells us that it is American turquoise. We do have that pyrite, but I don’t know how much it tells us. Just when you have a piece this age and it looks like you might have worn it often it just changes the original character of the ring. Makes it hard to really feel confident about declaring a mine for this one.

Jason, can you give us more detail on this statement? Thank you!

^Pretty sure @Jason is referring to the fact that the 1970s is too early a date for it to be Chinese.

Yes, meaning Chinese turquoise doesn’t show up until the 1980s. I guess we have Persian at this time, but doesn’t have that look.

Thanks Jason. I was wondering about Persian.

you can maybe find it on Durango Silver site. He has a section on turquoise, like a learning center. Really great info on that site
