Design study for iPhone 16 Pro Max case

My parents have some beautiful wood block prints that our dad brought back from Japan (he was a flight surgeon for a Navy transport squadron out of Moffat Field during Vietnam), I think those will be the hardest to decide who gets them when our parents pass on. Hopefully we won’t have to decide for many years yet.

Thanks a lot for being fair and transparent.

I bet those are beautiful! My parents had a lovely little Chinese carved chest that my uncle brought back (my sister has it). He was a Green Beret in Korea and Nam, then stayed in for life. @gt75, he spoke about 6 languages - did some spy work in Russia cause he even knew dialects. But he had to leave that after he married my aunt, a German woman.

So mmrogers’ mom was a flight nurse, and your dad a flight surgeon, fascinating! My dad was also Navy :grin: (WW2).

So you do know a real spy … cool.

No worries. Not very many people are willing to lay out that kind of scratch on something they’re only likely to use for a year or two. It isn’t like firearms where the real money in fine art engraving is. Was at a show a couple of years ago, where shotguns with work by master engravers were going for $150K. Its a whole different world.

My Chinese lacquered cabinets. There are a lot of them out there but I think the stone inlay is gorgeous. The larger one is inherited from my husbands aunt. The smaller one was $20 at St. Vinny’s. Japanese Imari sits on top except for middle teapot which is from my daughters Turkish MIL.

Whaaat … $20 for the great cabinet?! You are so lucky.
I would buy and even pay hundreds of $$ for shipping.

Thanks gt75 . There are a number of them for sale of eBay. This one was sold at a very reasonable price. Those black lacquer cabinets are so pretty!
I love St. Vinny! That’s where I got my red wedding cabinet!

@mmrogers

I’m a little bit late to this thread. I believe the thread that I’m replying to where you were talking about the phone case and what it ended up costing you to make? I absolutely love what you made and would love to buy one for my phone, but don’t know if you’re making any more, and if this is the cost, it may be a little prohibitive!

As always, you have beautiful design ideas and I really hope that I’m able to obtain a piece of your jewelry or work sometime soon!

The issue with a phone plate is the phone manufacturers. You buy a plate to fit an iPhone 16. Great for now but they ALWAYS change the specs so earlier accessories will not fit the new device. This is part of the planned obsolescence. So a “generic” plate needs to be made. Good luck Mike :grin: :grimacing:

Since we are also on furniture, here is a period piece we added yesterday. Replaced with better photo showing the actual darker wood.

That’s so classy looking. Beautiful!

Very nice @StevesTrail, what info do you have on it? Do you have an estimate of age? It’s lovely!

This is wonderful! It never fails to baffle me how these beautiful, early pieces of furniture survive so well. Your new acquisition was certainly well cared for! Taking into account the roughly 275 winters it’s got under it’s belt, it presents exceptionally. :+1: Thank you for sharing!
