It can be very difficult to id this type of marking, possibly even the owner who purchased it in 1976. It is Navajo style and has a good look. Wonder if same artist as your other piece? Did you purchase at the same time, place?

Unfortunately, I purchased from a collector, who didn’t have the provenance 
I did wonder about the tentative, scratchy look of the “hallmark”. I guess these will remain my “mystery pieces”.

I have the same mark (PN) with a different number on a belt buckle! I posted it here on the forum a few days ago. Jason thought it may be a commissioned piece.

In Billie Hougart’s book he references a Paul Rose. Heavy construction, leaf appliqué are some of his styles and he worked 70’s - 80s. The mark doesn’t match what is in the book but these marks can change over the years.
