Thank you for sharing this delightful story and photos. I haven’t heard of JJ Otero before - am looking forward to checking out his jewelry. That young girl’s smile is priceless. I think I would’ve chosen the same ring that she did! The other ring is absolutely fabulous especially with all that marvelous pyrite in the turquoise.
Your lovely work reminds me of his, @Stracci. You two should collaborate! ![]()
@Ravenscry
Thank you for the great compliment!
I try, but I’m nowhere near his league😀
Wowza! Great photos everyone! Looks like we all found some fabulous treasures. Funny I didn’t think it was as crowded as previous years; but then it’s always crowded! I didn’t make it to the El Dorado to see Art Tafoya @AC, he was on my list, but, your cuff is a showstopper! Did anyone get caught in the torrential downpour on Thursday afternoon? We were on our way back from Rainbowman to The Inn on the Alameda and got caught in the deluge…we looked like drowned rats (TOTALLY soaked).
We’re still driving back from Santa Fe to Sacramento; stayed at the wonderful La Posada in Winslow Monday evening. Long drive but the 3 of us have a good time.
My acquisitions include Cippy Crazyhorse, a Norbert Peshlakai, Ray Lovato, Roy Telahaftewa, Deanna Tenorio, and some other pieces from acouple galleries…I’ll sent pictures later but will share a great picture of Cippy and his daughter taken Friday at the Wheelright:
Oh, and just for fun, this is a photo of my friend joking around with Ray Lovato. So wonderful to see him there!
I am so envious of those of you who got to go to this! I wonder if maybe we should have a turquoise people meet up there some year soon?
And my husband will probably not let me set foot in there alone, he’d find out that I spent all our money at the market within an hour! Hahaha
All I can do is look on with envy, you are all so lucky to have a fair like that close to you I’m only 5000 miles away maybe I can hitch hike there next year ![]()
So here is something only 15 minutes walk from where I live: there are only 4 of these ever built , Palladian bridges with roof as a garden feature.
I follow JJ on Instagram. He is a kind and giving person that looks after his parents. Not to mention, a wonderful artist in the jewelry realm as well as music.
Thank you for sharing the pic of your friend with Ray Lovato. I’ve heard he is quite a character. Hope to meet him in person someday.
Thanks @here4turquoise. He certainly is a character. He’s had some medical and personal challenges, but still has a real since of humor. I’ll post a picture of Ray and my jacla necklace…I told him to smile, and he made the most hysterical face. But I was laughing so much I missed it😆
Hope you do get to meet him, and his son Andrew. I think Andrew, and other family members are doing most of the work nowadays.
Thanks so much for sharing these fabulous bridges! Beautiful pictures. This is what I love about Europe, the amazing historic architecture! Of course driving in England on the wrong side of the road on those narrow streets and the wrong direction, on the wrong side of the road around roundabouts always has me shaking😆.
Hope you make it “across the pond” to meet some of our amazing NA artists before too long.
I like this picture too. Thank you for sharing it with us.
@Bmpdvm @here4turquoise Icould go though lots of film locations some from Bridgerton, Harry Potter, Poldark and of course many Jane Ayre film locations to but not in this topic. Reading through the forum is making me realise how disconnected from NA cultural references my life has been.
Looking at motifs used locations and the pride in work displayed here is bringing to life book learning in a way I just can’t get irl.
Drumming my fingertips on the keyboard awaiting y’all’s gorgeous hauls…

You’re funny @chicfarmer! I haven’t taken outdoor pictures of my haul
yet, but because the Norbert Peshalaki cuff you posted some time ago had me drooling, I’ve been looking for one online. All I find were too big or sold. But, I headed to Norbert’s booth Saturday and found this:
Norbert calls these his “Heart of Gold” cuff. Lucky I got there when I did, because I went back a few hours later with a friend who wanted one and they were all gone (he had 4, all different widths). And I couldn’t pass up his dragonfly,
Just as a complete change of styles, I picked up this fabulous inlaid antler pendant by Hopi carver Ron Honyouti. He, along with Deanna Tenorio and Cippy, and others were up on museum hill. I had wanted a different inlaid corn pendant I had my eye on, but we didn’t get up to the Wheelwright soon enough; he had already sold the 2 he had. This pendant is a close second😊
Ooh @Bmpdvm I love your finds! That Norbert bracelet is spectacular
, and we do love our silver dragonflies! The Hopi inlay pendant is terrific, with such dimensionality and expert inlay work, from an esteemed carver. Gorgeous additions, congrats! ![]()
I really like your jewelry haul. If I had to pick a favorite, it would be your inlay antler pendant.
@Bmpdvm
That cuff! I loooove it!
The dragon fly is too cool, very industrial and modern looking! The crosshatch texture is so intriguing.
Thanks @Chicfarmer @here4turquoise and @Stracci! The antler inlay pendant is pretty special; It’s my husband’s favorite too. Ron Honyouti is amazingly talented, I’m anxious to see his future pieces.
The Peshlakai cuff does have a wonderful modern, industrial feel…accentuated with his wonderful stamping.
And @chicfarmer, you are so correct, we do love our dragonfly’s! I thought about buying one from Cippy, but bought another set of his handmade beads instead…then found Norbert’s wonderful dragonfly. It was irresistible!
Here’s my new Cippy beads with his long double taper beads and an older Cippy Naja. I find his beads exceptional!
Another artist I truly appreciate is Jesse Robbins. Most of his work is in the traditional tufa cast hand wrought coin silver and natural turquoise. He loves to educate people typically bringing several of his hand carved Tufa molds and other older tools to shows. I didn’t make it to see him this year, but a friend took a couple pictures of his pieces:
@Bmpdvm I’ve never heard of him before but, he certainly makes some super yummy stuff!
