Thank you for the recommendation. Ill definitely need to get an appraisal. I wanted to update the forum with information about the home testing to clarify if the stone was plastic or real. Im also just curious to see what the experts on here might think about the piece possibly being Persian turquoise, because of the origin coming from Greece.
I think it is a very pretty piece. I am no expert but am also leaning to it being glass, but it is always tricky to tell from a photo. I own a few European pieces with turquoise colored cabochons myself and arrived at the conclusion that in my case most, if not all, are glass cabochons. I also did the tests you mentioned (hot needle and acetone swab).
I guess in a way it is logical that glass was regularly used over here, since we don’t have any decent turquoise in the ground. Contrary to pieces with fake turquoise stones, like dyed howlite etc. i still do like my pieces with glass a lot and occasionally wear them.
Thank you
I also appreciate the pendant. If its glass it makes no difference to me, Its a family heirloom. My Greek great grandmother had an extraordinary jewelery collection, so it wouldn’t surprise me if the tourqoise was real. I guess I have to decide if its worth investing money into the process. And if the stone is real, would the value of it account for the cost to determine that.
