JCL/JLC Earrings

I have been admiring these earrings at my favorite botique/resale/art shop.
They are about 1.25" long.
My friend who owns the shop was not sure if they were Onxy or Jet.
She had replaced the clasps with those silicon ones and they were very hard. I plan on replacing them with silver butterfly clasps.
Anyways, Does the hallmark look famaliar to anyone? I could not find it on Art-Amerindien.
Thank you.

Onyx is generally shiny and hard while Jet is a more matte finish and not as hard.

Thanks for the info. I have some Jet that is polished. Was given that by a lapidary friend several years ago. He cut apart an old ash tray and made cabochons from it. He was sure it was Jet.
Good to know that usually Jet is not polished.

Cool earrings. I looked in Hougart’s 5th under JCL and JLC but didn’t find anything there or in Hopi Silver. If it is out there @Steve will find it.

Thank you. I found a pendant and cuff on Ebay with a matching hallmark, but sellers only mentiooned the initials.

OK, I must have been tired when looking before.
Art Amerindien says the hallmark is Joe & Lejeune Chavez, Kewa.
I did find some similar earrings attributed to them, but the hallmark is Joe Chavez. Will keep looking.

Thanks. I am more awake now and doing research on them.
It seems like I got a great deal on the earrings.

I found their web page.
Here is the earrings section. Many are similar to mine.
Yes, the stone is probably onyx.

I don’t think my friend realized what she had. Next time I see her, will be offering to do some research on hallmarked items before she prices them.
