Out of a mix came these two items. The Bernyse Chavez ring is an interesting mix of traditional with modern. No idea about the N. Frost locket.

Both cool but, oh, I looove that ring!! The purple stone(Sugilite?) is beautiful, and I love it when the artist does extra work on the band.

Gorgeous deep purple stone, I’m assuming sugilite. Clear, deep purple sugilite is just fabulous and getting harder to find.

When I purchased cabs years ago (probably the early 2000’s) I was told the current major source of sugilite in South Africa, was becoming depleted. I was unable to find the clear, deep purple, sugilite I love. Evidently, it’s found secondary to manganese mining. I’m sure there are also other smaller sources, but it seems to be much less commonly used in Native American jewelry. Charalite seems to be more commonly used today.

Im not convinced it’s NA and was hoping someone might chime in. I’m leaning toward Mexican or artisan. NA rarely use jade. But they were both in the same group.
