Yes, screwback.
@Reddog53, what a beautiful collection of vintage jewelry, you truly have some treasures here.
Concerning your most recent photographs, in the first one, the bracelet in the foreground, left side of the photo, has an uncanny similarity to one that Mudhead Gallery recently sold that was attributed to Juan Dideos. The stampwork is obviously different, as are the bezels and the manner in which the turquoise was finished, however, it’s still a beautiful piece.
@AC,
Thank you for your input. I appreciate the research that members did. I agree with your identification. I am such a newbie. Lots to learn. Thank you.
Best, Reddog53
Wow! Oh my gosh. You have definitely got quite the collection. That top right turquoise cuff is the one that’s killing me, so cool. And the sand cast pendant (pin?) in the second photo. Gorgeous.
Whereabouts are you located? I think someone on here that lives out west, had said awhile ago that they knew of some appraisers. But I may be remembering that completely wrong. Was that you, @Bmpdvm?
@Reddog53 you have a wonderful collection of quality pieces! this bracelet, along with the STUNNING knifewing necklace, makes my mouth water!
Thank you very much.
We are in Florida now.
@Ravenscry, I know I’ve seen this cuff, or a very similar cuff, just recently then I was researching a variety of knifewing pins by Horace Iule and comparing them with those made by Juan Dideos. I’m pretty sure this cuff was by Juan. It’s a pretty distinctive piece!
When I have a chance I’ll look through my resources again…hope to find it.
Juan definitely made bracelets in this style, most famously with carved turquoise resembling a foot or a paw. Bracelets like this are often attributed to Juan, or called Juan DeDios style, but I would be very hesitant to attribute it as his based just on what we see in these pictures. He did occasionally hallmark, and those pieces go for a real premium partly because they are so rare but also because it is so hard to definitively ID his work otherwise.
@Bmpdvm, Interesting! I’m in the process of compiling a new thread, and I didn’t want to mention this before adding it to @TAH’s Belt Buckles and Concho Belts thread, but I’ve got a belt buckle that is attributed to Juan DeDios. This cuff of @Reddog53’s and the one that I posted from Mudhead Gallery’s page appear similar, however, there are subtle differences that are apparent, right down to the casting itself. I agree @OrbitOrange, as has been said countless times, without bonafide provenance, we can only draw educated guesses based on our research and what little knowledge we may have. Just to be clear, I had no intention of leading anyone down a path of assumption, I only wanted to share something I’d stumbled across in research.
You didn’t lead wrong, I felt you were quite clear in saying it was in his style, but has differences. Looking forward to seeing your buckle!
Thanks @OrbitOrange…you are totally correct. I apologize if misspoke in my post. I didn’t mean to indicate the cuff was by Juan, just that I had seen a very similar piece attributed to Juan (this big bell went off in my head😆). I’m certainly not knowledgable enough to make that call. I’ve seen so few pieces attributed to him, or in his specific style. But logically, we all know that there are always reproductions made of important artists.
Hi @Ziacat, I guess I’m “out west” compared to most of you. I lived in California for most of my life until we escaped the madness and moved to western northern NV. I mentioned that I know several galleries in the Santa Fe and Phoenix areas, and auction houses that might buy collections, but don’t think I specifically mentioned appraisals. I did know a couple of people who did insurance appraisals in the bay area in CA…not 100% sure if they are still doing them. Other than a gallery I’ve purchased from offering to appraise my pieces, I don’t have any advice I’m comfortable with giving out.
I just sat down to look at the books I used for Horace Iule’s Knifewings, including Paula’s multiple books…and you found it first! That’s what I was referring to. Thanks @OrbitOrange .
i’m wondering how many of you followed this auction that just closed at $6,561.00 Stamped UITA 2 for CG Wallace at Zuni.

I think that’s the highest value i’ve seen on a GW auction for turquoise. @Reddog53, you have a treasure!!! (imho, the stones in yours are 10x better than the one above!)
I’m impressed by the cuff on the left also but I really like the one on the right with the bowed out silver between the cabs. You have some great pieces!
@Islandmomma I hadn’t noticed the bowed out silver until you mentioned it. That’s cool looking. First time I’m seeing that on a cuff.
I was following it - had to look twice at the final amount. It will be interesting if the winner pays up and we don’t see it back up for auction down the road.
