Hello. I am brand new here. I hope I post this correctly. I recently purchased this piece because I love it, but there is a name scratched on the back. Can someone help me with it and tell me if this is the artist and, if yes, how can I learn more about them? The first name on this piece appears to be Stephen.
Beautiful and I love it.
Someone should be able to ID the artist here.
Hello, can you make out the name? Also did you test the metal?
I have not tested the metal personally, but the person I bought it from said they tested it and it is sterling. The first name is Stephen and the lady name looks like Kuebler maybe.
The last photo shows the signature pretty well.
Welcome to the forum! You will learn a lot here.
I had no luck, but someone else may (calling Steve , the internet search wizard). Possibly an Anglo artist? Or maybe the name is the owner not the maker? Maybe the pendant didn’t originally come with the necklace; it looks Navajo.
Whatever the case, cool piece.
not too much out there about mystery artist
Hougart only shows 2 known identified artists 1st name “Stephen”
zero found Kuebler
Oh my goodness! That piece certainly looks similar. Was it signed the same way? Pardon my ignorance, I’m new at this, does the question become whether this artist is native or not? I’m excited! Thank you.
I tried looking online for what Steve found to give you a link. But I for the life of me, can’t find it. Steve, can you do a link so @Willie_Joe can see if the signature is the same? Looks like maybe the little tiny picture on the right is of the back of the bolo, so a signature might be visible.
And I would say, yes, the next question is whether this artist is Native. But unless someone on the site is familiar with this artist, that may be really hard to do. The name doesn’t sound native, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t.
@mmrogers, what do you think about this necklace? And hopefully Jason will also have insight.

lousy picture at worthpoint showing the back. same signature is there & even harder to read
Dont know quite what to make of it, Ziacat. The eagle looks like the detail was carved with an ultrasonic drill. There were similar carved eagle pendants coming out of the Phillipines during this time period, from Dave Freeland’s shop there. Those were articulated and set in hinged settings as necklaces. I’ve never seen this particular carving before, but it’s strongly reminiscent of the previously mentioned carved eagle neckwear.
Thanks! I thought you might be familiar with this type of eagle. The name and something about the eagle just seemed odd to me for native work. But I am certainly no expert.
