Please pray for the hurricane victims

I would like to reply about the “authorities” but I don’t want you all to know my ugly side.

Just go on Twitter and there are plenty of witnesses telling you what the authorities are doing and not doing. It is abhorrent. This will be my last comment on the subject. :pray:t3:

I appreciate you weighing in on this very unfortunate situation. There are so many who are ignoring/bypassing the authorities. They are true heros.

I am going to weigh in on this and give you my experiences and opinion. My wife and I lost our roof in hurricane Francis in 2004. We were without power for almost 3 weeks and then were hit by hurricane Jeanne one week later, knocking out the power for another 1 1/2 weeks. We live in a highly populated urban area, and it still took that long to get power. No power, so no gas stations operating. No power, so no grocery stores operating. The government cannot do much in these situations, I will repeat that, the government cannot do much in these situations, but unfortunately people think that they can. All the government can do is try and mitigate with some emergency help, but most help will rely on local emergency services and individuals. FEMA is a government agency, it doesn’t have stockpiles of supplies sitting all over the country they can move out and fix everything quickly. All it can do is try and direct resources to areas organize services and help families some during and after the fact.
The government can make money available for states to help and to rebuild, but that is about it. Most help will always have to come from local emergency services, private companies and individuals. Our neighborhood got together and made sure everyone had food, water, and shared electricity from generators.
Reading the horrible stories and having many friends and family in the area, I can understand people’s frustrations, but as I said earlier, there is not much that can be done by the government or anyone in disasters like this. Look at New Orleans and Katrina, look at the wildfires in the west. The area of destruction from this storm is about the size of the state of California, so unfortunately things will not progress quickly. Sorry for the long rant, just my opinion and you can take it or leave it.

My two younger sons are up there doing fiber optic and they tell me it’s really bad. The youngest one drove one of the guys they are working with to Tennessee to get his truck. On the way back when he was by himself he called and was telling me the horrible things that he saw on the trip. He said in areas the stench was horrible and that he saw at least one dead body probably more but he couldn’t let himself see it. From what I’ve read the locals and some other people are providing the most help. The guys are going to come home for a short visit and I am planning to send stuff back with them since they’re in the middle of it. That way I know they will get it to people who need it. I’m so glad for the helicopter :helicopter: owners who have been helping. They can spot and access way more than people on the ground because of the damaged roads and bridges. Keep sending supplies and/or money. I for one believe in the power of prayer, so prayers for the victims and the helpers.:pray::pray::latin_cross:
P.S. I will not comment on the government because I have nothing nice to say…

I forgot you are in that area (can’t remember if it’s SC or GA)! Glad to hear you are okay. I will pray for your sons also.

Thank you for sharing your experience through hurricanes. I’m sure it was a very difficult time for you and your family. As you state, it is best to band together with neighbors, local emergency services and churches.

You have raised two amazing sons. Please thank them for helping. I appreciate you sending supplies with them. It is wonderful people like your family that make devastating situations like this a bit more bearable. You all give hope! Thank you!

The facts on the ground from what I’m reading are that FEMA is actively hindering civilian recovery efforts, outright confiscating privately donated resources, refusing to allow private pilots to fly search and rescue missions into remote areas, even going as far as to arrest pilots who don’t comply with their demands. Multiple sources reporting this, along with video emerging which appears to corroborate the reports. I’m looking online for MRE packages I can send to organizations like Cajun Navy, Samaritan’s Purse, and other private aid organizations distributing aid directly to rescuers and disaster victims. Prayers out!

I tried to get on Samaritan’s Purse website, and my computer was being annoying, so I called. They were so busy I couldn’t get through. I’ll try my computer again later. But I’m glad they are getting overloaded with calls!!

Yes, thank you. The point I was trying to make was that we expect that the Federal government can just swoop in and make everything right quickly. It doesn’t work that way unfortunately, although it has always tried make us believe that it can. The best it can do in these situations is to try and get resources to places where others can pick up or distribute. We have always had to rely on ourselves, you know community, neighborhoods civic groups ect… Unfortunately with all the division caused by many influences in this country, much of that has been lost.

Islandmomma let him know that he is in our prayers. We are gutted by the pictures and firsthand stories. My wife and I vacation near Boone, Blowing Rock at least a month or more a year and have many friends and family in the area. It will be a long hard haul for many, as some of these areas are difficult to access on the best of days.

Yeah, unfortunately that’s par for the course. FEMA arrived in our area and took all the available hotel rooms so all the displaced had nowhere to go. We were lucky to have good friends who put us up for the 3 months it took to repair our house. I remember 4 days in, our neighbors came and said that they were giving out water and ice at the nearby county courthouse. They went and sat in line 4 hours for a case of water and a bag of ice. Just a waste of precious gasoline. We saw them that night on the national news, President Bush was the one giving out the ice to them. Just a photo op. Typical political BS

Good morning,
Anyone here in Florida? We are in Malabar, Florida. Blessed to be on the east coast, so avoiding the worst damage from Hurricane Milton. Prayers for all.

I’ve been seeing that same thing. Now there is another hurricane in the gulf. It’s already a cat 3. I know they have been manipulating the weather for many decades but this along with everything else seems politically driven. Completely insane and scary. Thank heavens for the sane people who are doing all the great work to help these devastated people. And also to Elon Musk for sending Starlink to get some communication back up. I sure hope that good triumphs over evil!

Thanks I will tell them. I forgot my cousin and his wife are still stuck on the top of a mountain in their cabin. They didn’t get too much damage they just can’t get out yet. At least we have gotten an occasional FB post letting everyone know that they are ok.

We are on the coast of SC and it went above us. We only got some wind and a few small limbs down.
