Hi everyone! Nice to be here! There is so much knowledge in this group!
Hoping that someone can help me learn more about this squash blossom necklace. I was told it was from 1960s, several turquoise stones had been replaced, no markings that I can see and looks to be a newer clasp.
Wow!!! That is absolutely gorgeous! I don’t know a whole lot about squashes (I don’t own one). It’s different, and I like that. I love the color differences in the stones, often that means they are natural; I actually prefer that look, but that’s just me. Maybe it was restrung and the clasp replaced?
Thanks so much for welcoming me to the group! I love the commentary and interactions on the topics!
I love this piece but don’t know anything about it other than this info passed on to me:
1960s Navajo made sterling silver squash blossom statement necklace with various Nevada turquoise stones; natural & hand cut & set. Some stones have been replaced.
That’s a beautiful piece! gorgeous all around. the shape and stamp work on the blossoms - yummy! the stones are beautiful and love the color gradation and how they’ve aged. interesting construction on the naja - in two pieces. the bottom looks sandcast (or tufa cast? i can never properly tell) and attached to the necklace with a piece that matches the head of the blossoms. very interesting! it’s an absolute stunner.
@Jason Hi Jason.
The diamond w/ lines looks like the stamp on the blossoms (probably not the right term) and the other looks like a broad head w/ 4 blocks. I’ll get a better picture to send when I get home.
The same symbol is stamped on the bottom of the petals. Similar to the Zia sun symbol. Maybe just decorative, or a practice strike with the stamp. As for the othe stamp I can’t really see it that well
The stamp/hallmark looks somewhat like a so-called god’s eye symbol, which was in vogue in the 60s (implied to be associated with US Native Americans but in fact not North American). The necklace does read 60s to me, definitely a late-twentieth-century adaptation. Fun and interesting. Enjoy.
I’m inclined to agree with @chicfarmer that the squash looks like 60’s. The turquoise looks to be natural. Beautiful squash blossom necklace with lovely stones!
