Weavings of the Diné

I doubt this. I stumbled across it on eBay late Wednesday night, and when failing to find it on their website yesterday, I went back to eBay and saw that it was sold.

Seemed a reasonable price. Maybe @Ziacat was able to grab it. I’m partial to cats and enjoy seeing items like that. Thanks for posting the weaving.

Wasn’t me. No room in the budget for a rug this year, which is fine, because there is no more room in my house for another

I guess you could always add a room on :money_mouth_face:

You’re not trying hard enough.

Wow. Apparently I am not  Bet they never use their fireplace though

What is the animal portrayed in the floor rug??

For general knowledge, it’s my understanding that hanging the rugs on a rack like they are for very long periods (back right) is not good for them (can cause a crease that is hard to get out). Maybe it’s just for the pic. You may all know this, but if stored they should be rolled, not folded. I do have some on the backs of the couch and chairs, but I switch them up.

Love that Window Rock rug!!

Ehh, that old Yei rug comes down when they want to light a fire.

Here you go, Zia.

That was my guess, except it kind of looked like it had claws on its feet so I wasn’t sure.

Is that a Remington brozne on the mantle too ?

Hmmm… I’m not sure. I don’t recognize it, but I am certainly not familiar with all his works. It might just be a copy.

Saw this sign in Garland’s and thought it was interesting.

For all the work involved, not even $13 per hour for a $5000 weaving. A tag with applicable info should be attached to the price tags.

I wanted to share some newly acquired weavings. :slightly_smiling_face:

I was enamored with the subdued colors in this one, and thought it was a neat touch that the Rainbow Yei had radiused corners, as opposed to sharp 90° corners that I’ve seen more of.

This one was presented as being from the 50’s, but there is “9/70” penned on the tag from the Mesa Verde Gift Shop. I’m unsure if that’s a month/year designation or some other code, but I enjoy it regardless. The differing measurements on the tag are weird too, but I dimensioned the rug before posting.

Beautiful, Aaron! The colors in both weavings are so pleasing to the eye. Can’t decide which one I like more. Guess I’ll have to settle for loving them both.

Thank you, Tom! Obviously I couldn’t decide on one, either.

This is a project in the works, as there will be more to come for this display, but I wanted to share something I felt others may enjoy seeing.

I’ve always admired the idea of displaying a Navajo wearing blanket as it was meant to be worn. In my mind, it accentuates the human form, and I feel that was a factor in their creation.

Much credit is due to @TAH for adamantly pushing the thought into my head and encouraging me to see it through. His comments of “…it would be a great way to display jewelry, as well…” helped push me over the edge.

I was able to turn up a 1966 Wolf dress form at a local antique shop, and while it’s a bit small for this blanket, it will be perfect for another addition soon to come.

I’m hunting a larger form in order to display this blanket properly, but I couldn’t help myself.

The blanket is so striking! Looking forward to your completed display!

Aaron, your display is going to be awesome! Can’t wait to see it completed. The blanket colors are beautiful especially the bright red against the black and “white” stripes. Absolutely love it! :+1:

Beautiful rugs and blanket! Glad to see you purchasing Navajo textiles, but be careful; it’s addictive…at least until you run out of places to display them  Although it appears you are being very creative in that area.

Thanks Zia!

I’m reluctant to admit that I’m already an addict.

Well, we’ll see. The smaller Yei rug is thrown over a French door for the time being. But I like it there.
