Yei earrings

I found these earrings today in a consignment shop.

After researching the mark ( thanks, art-amerindien website) I found out they are made by Willie Yazzie Sr.

Here is the condition they were in when I bought them.

And after cleaning and a quick polish….

If you look real close, cleaning revealed the eyes as tiny divots in the little faces….cool attention to detail!

After reading a little bit about Yei on Garland’s website, they may be female Yei

Wow! They cleaned up nicely. Good score!

@Ziacat And they are surprisingly light to wear! I usually don’t like heavy drop earrings with a post, but these ones are working out fine. I use jumbo backs, to stop drooping.

Yay!! I love keeping Hopi, actually all silver overlay, jewelry nice and shiny! Nice find!

These are lovely, @Stracci, and quite the score. :+1:

I agree. The iconography of Yei is powerful, no matter the art form, and they affect me deeply.

Unless you’ve already read this blog by the revered Messiers, here is some more info on Willie Yazzie, who was employed by Dean Kirk.

Thanks @Bmpdvm !

I really like overlay, and I couldn’t leave this pair in the store. I knew that they would look great once cleaned up.

@here4turquoise this shop sometimes yields good stuff. It just depends on the day I stop by, of course.

I know you’re not a belt person, or a buckle fanatic, but I came across a buckle that would pair well with your new earrings. :slightly_smiling_face:
