A day trip to Santa Fe

We rode the train up to Santa Fe today to check out the New Mexico Museum of Art. We wanted to see exhibits there showcasing two of my favorite artists, Alphonse Mucha and Gustave Baumann.
Of course, we looked at jewelry, too. We had a great time, nothing better for me than looking at art and jewelry!

Alphonse Mucha

This one was huge, the woman is life sized :down_arrow:

Gustave Baumann. He was a world famous Santa Fe painter and printmaker.

I love Gustave Baumann’s art. I used to have some boxed note cards with his work on them, and I think there are a couple of his paintings in the Eiteljorg if I remember correctly.

I bet you did have fun with the jewelry; I can imagine it would inspire you!

The train sounds like fun, Stracci. I didn’t know this was a thing, so I have a few questions:

Where do you board the train?

What is the ticket price?

How long is the trip?

Does it make other stops along the way?

Great share. I wonder why the Mucha is there, did the display mention a connection? I’m a Mucha fan, have visited the Mucha museum in Prague–beyond stunning. The Prague cathedral has stained glass designed by him. :star_struck:

You beat me to it. I had no idea that there’s a train from ABQ to Santa Fe. We always drove to SF. I luv train rides, and have all the same questions as you do :slightly_smiling_face:.

@Stracci Oh, this sounds like a lovely way to spend a day! What a special treat to see the work of these two famous artists.

The Rail Runner! I’ve taken it. Drops you off at the Santa Fe railyard by Tomasitsas. It does make other stops such as Santo Domingo Pueblo. I’ll let @Stracci answer the other questions.

Gustave Baumann is also famous for his marionettes, correct? There is a Christmas marionette show that I want to see.

There is definitely a train, and I think it’s called the Roadrunner. We watched it pull in once to Santa Fe; it was really cool looking. But I know @Stracci will have the details!

Edit: @OrbitOrange added that at the exact same time, and I couldn’t remember the exact name  Yes. Tomasita’s. That’s where we were eating! I couldn’t remember that name either.

Hi TAH!

Hi @Patina !

It’s called the Rail Runner, and it starts in the little town of Belen, and works it’s way north to the Santa Fe Depot.

The boarding depots are listed in the photo below. We catch it at Montaño Road. It takes 1 hour and 20 minutes.

The Santa Fe Depot is just a 10 minute walk to the Santa Fe Plaza, with shopping and galleries along the way. It does not take you to Museum Hill, but there is a shuttle called ‘Santa Fe Pickup’ that does.

From where we board, It costs $10 round trip, and $7 for seniors over 60. We are over 60, so it was $14 for both of us.

Well worth it, so you don’t have to tolerate the 1 hour drive from Abq., navigate Santa Fe streets and pay parking garage rates.

We didn’t buy anything this trip! Just a muffin for breakfast! On Saturday morning there is a farmers market at the Santa Fe Depot with lots of food, and live music.

Hi Chicfarmer!

The New Mexico Museum of Art has two locations a short walk apart. The Mucha exhibit was at the one location and the Baumann exhibit was at the other.

@Stracci Hi ~ Thank you so much for all the train information! This adds another splendid reason to vist NM again, soon.

Yes! They had the marionettes there, as well.

It was very interesting, learning more about him and all the things he did in his life and extensive art career.

For future reference, can dogs ride the train?

@here4turquoise

I think only service animals, but you could call and check on that

@Ziacat, it is a fun ride, and then you get to see all the NA jewelry shops and galleries that your eyes can stand.

I got museum fatigue, and had to rest and close my eyes on a park bench after a while…old people problems!
