A Discussion about Chinese Turquoise

I don’t really either, just sometimes make some decent guesses

@islandmomma These are all wonderful examples of Chinese turquoise. The turquoise in your cuff, 2nd photo, is absolutely beautiful. Thanks for sharing!

Your turquoise is better than what is being offered. Great examples. :+1:

I have some ‘pastel’ versions of the lime green that a friend of mine bought back in the 90’s. Please excuse the fuzzy pic, I broke my dang lens the other day :sob:. I wonder if it came from a different mine.

My better half and I are planning to make a trip to China in 2027 to try and establish some direct sources for good, stabilizing grade turquoise.

If you have any recommendations, I would be forever in your debt!

Thank you for clarifying, I have been trying to educate people on this fact for years.

From a very reliable source. Maybe the issue is China doesn’t want to recognize Tibet as an independent country.

My pieces are not as high grade as the nuggets you were asking about, my material comes from Qingu, the Moon River mine. But I thought it would be interesting to show you what the tumbled versus the non-tumbled rough looks like.

I have seen the quality that the other user is showing from cloud temple, and it’s definitely not fake or dyed. It’s just that very little of that grade passes through the hands of us turquoise lovers.

We call them poop nuggets before tumbling lol

We actually don’t know what the material from the Hubei poster looked like before whatever was done to enhance it. There are other processes used for chemical enhancement beyond traditional treating. The results can be pretty impressive.

I agree. Some of the creativity all three of the stabilizers I’ve used is pretty impressive. And that’s not even touching on what Sterling Faust can do with the Zachary method.

Have you seen the “Gibbsite Turquoise” with the black web or the pyrite matrix? Now the guy who came up with that is making magic with his Frankenstones lol . I always forget his last name, starts with an E.

But I am certain that those nugs are real. I’ve been invited into a few vaults over the years, and then cry because I’m poor :sob:. There was a clutch of guys who were kinda the first dudes to bring Chinese turquoise over here. Ron Alexander, Danny Lopaki, GL…some of that stuff is still around in a few safes of friends of mine in Gallup.

Check out the Red Note app. It’s mostly in Mandarin, but you can long press your screen and get a translation. They are serious about their turquoise collections and there’s stuff that will knock your socks off!
