A Discussion about Chinese Turquoise

After inspection, the content of zinc in turquoise produced from YaoJiaPo is higher, so it presents a green color

I can see there are still some good Chinese cabs being offered but based on what I’ve seen for sale no one seems to have any high grade rough coming out of China. Must be their mines are played out.

I haven’t seen much either. There was one seller I used to see a lot, but not very much anymore. I’m so glad I have my vintage pieces with the good old Turquoise from China.

I do see a few nice small cabs in your first two photos but most are average. Check out Dan’s video on Chinese turquoise rough and you will see what I mean. Just not available - at least over here.

Great info! Still trying to figure out if these may be chinese or kingsman. I don’t want to mislead anyone. Thoughts?

I would guess kingman, mostly because it’s the most common turquoise out there. But :person_shrugging:

When you say “I don’t want to mislead anyone,” evidently you’re selling this. Just a bit of advice: Don’t advertise this as Native American work, because you don’t know. And, these are inexpensive, stabilized stones of the type sold by jewelry supply shops.

I agree with @chicfarmer, and if you’re selling it you also shouldn’t advertise it as being from a particular mine, since you don’t know. I was merely guessing.

Thank you for your input and advise!

Now the big question. How much is rough the same quality as in Dan’s video. And also Yue’ertan turquoise.

Are those stabilized?

After seeing examples of Chinese turquoise here, I’m thinking this is Chinese turquoise too. My guess from looking at the matrix.

This has been tumble finished and the matrix looks dyed to me. The stone itself looks like it has been chemically enhanced. It doesn’t come out of the ground looking like this. Do you have closeup images of these nuggets cut in a cross section so we can get a good look at the internal color, translucence, grain, etc?

I see a lot of black matrix in Kingman, so :person_shrugging: I tend to not like Chinese turquoise as well, and I really like your stone.

Thank you for commenting. That was exactly what I was thinking when I asked if it was stabilized, because it just doesn’t look quite right to me.

Good points. That’s why I referenced Dan’s video. His videos show what Chinese turquoise SHOULD look like.

Thanks so much Ziacat  I have no idea what any turquoise is but I’m definitely willing to learn as much as I can.
