Yesterday, a dear friend and I visited the Eiteljorg Museum in Indianapolis, IN. We’ve made a habit out of spending a day on the grounds and perusing the exhibits every few months or so, as we both proudly support the fine institution.
After revisiting @Ziacat’s thread on last years Eiteljorg market and festival…
…I recalled both @Ziacat and @TAH sharing photos of jewelry from the museum’s permanent collection, I just couldn’t remember which pieces they were. Upon not seeing the following, I thought some here may enjoy.
Yesterday, they had on display a marvelous, earlier squash blossom. This one has it all, what appears to be substantial weight, (while not suredly indicative of age, a preference of mine) thick, three petal blossoms, flat top stones, and some simple cold chisel work.
I’m looking forward to it! Last year my friend and I attended the breakfast that they host for the artists and patrons before the market opens. An elderly gentleman asked if we would mind his company, and we welcomed him to our otherwise empty table. Upon some riveting discussion and a few laughs with him and a few of the artists, we came to learn his name was Jack Eiteljorg, one of two sons of the museum’s founder, Harrison Eiteljorg. It was a real treat enjoying eachother’s company so casually!
How fun! I imagine you had a pretty amazing conversation. I remember when we first heard from my sis (who lived in Indy at the time) that the Eiteljorg was opening, we were pretty excited. People look puzzled when I say the name of the museum, so I always have to explain that it is named after the founder.
