Anyone ever seen this? Once part of necklace turned into pin?

Has anyone ever seen this or recognize the maker? It looks like it may have been taken from a necklace and recycled into a pin. Is the stone even turquoise? Nickel Silver or Coin Silver or? I’m worried its nickel silver. Any comments would help, thank you.

Any particular reason you think it was from a different necklace? If they converted it from an another necklace, they not only added a pin, but they added two hooks so that it could also be worn as a pendant. It’s hard to tell the exact measurements from a picture, but it looks fairly equal. It could’ve been made that way. The turquoise looks perfectly legit to me and I actually think it’s quite pretty. I’m not real certain why you’re worried about what the metal is. I would think sterling from looking at your pictures. If you don’t have a testing kit yourself it’s very easy to take it and have it checked.

I think its beautiful, however I purchased an unmarked piece a while back that had similar scrolls and beads in the metalwork and it turned out to be nickel silver. I was just wondering if anyone has seen this piece before or anything similar. Turquoise ppl are quite knowledgeable.

Well, after seeing what Steve posted, I can understand why you are hesitant. Have you tried messaging to see if they have a way to test it? I still think it’s really pretty.

Beautiful brooch. This is the type of pin Navajo ladies wear at the top of a traditional velvet blouse when dressed traditionally. Looking at the workmanship, which is excellent, it’s hard to imagine this is anything but sterling.

Doesn’t hurt to have it tested as long as it’s by a jeweler who knows what they’re doing. $60 for something like this is an absolute steal, and may reflect the fact the seller had no idea what they have. This is a traditional handmade brooch of excellent quality, and easily worth multiples of that number, and if sterling, the materials alone would exceed the selling price.

This doesn’t look like something recycled into something else. It looks purposefully made as exactly what it is.

I know mmrogers I should have just pulled the trigger on it right wen I saw it, I knew it was a steal! I could have got it for $45. Even if it is nickel silver, its a beautiful pin! I was the only one watching it so I thought I was safe for a few days. Thanks for your excellent input.

I’d keep an eye on that seller. If they’re dumb enough to offer something like this for less than materials cost, hopefully there’ll be other items they’ll drastically underprice.

You are right; I was just responding to the OP’s automatic assumption that it was one of us that went after it. But I guess there may be many people that on this forum that we never hear from and don’t really know.

There was a reason that I commented that the seller was being vague about the metal purity.

When I researched this item the image pointed directly to the ebay listing. The seller made sure to list how much it weighed in DWT when most would has just used grams so I dug a little deeper into their other active and sold listings in jewelry.

seller appeared to have no issues fully identifying any of their other high end items as well as the gemstones but a quick trip to a local jeweler for a scratch test on the pin didn’t happen….or did it.

Perfectly reasonable to suspect the authenticity of the materials when an item is priced this far below its natural market value. Especially in a space where fakes, counterfeits, and tall tales are rampant, and specific product knowledge is exceedingly rare.

Yes, I agree Steve. When shopping on eBay or other platforms, the other listings for that seller are very telling.

I’m with you on this! If something catches your eye buy it or it’s a you snooze…….. I have missed out on many items shoulda, woulda, coulda.
BTW, I did not buy it either.

I’m sorry you missed that piece. It was very pretty. I have thought the same thing in the past and then somebody comes cruising through in the nighttime and it’s gone when I wake up. I’ve lost several pieces so now I try to make a decision before I move on. If I think i’m gonna be sad if it’s gone in the morning, I usually just do it. I’ll tell you what I tell myself “if you missed out it means something better is coming.” :crossed_fingers::crossed_fingers::crossed_fingers:

Couldn’t agree more here. I have saved myself several times with my (at times perhaps over-diligent?) researching and questions and also made some mistakes when I neglected to do so. I also find when read with caution for context and legitimacy, Reviews both inside and outside of the actual platform being used, can often be very informative. It does not mean there are not solid sellers online just that it does take some diligence to ensure expectations are realistic.
