Hi, I inherited quite a bit of jewelry, that I know little about other than the buyer bought much of it in the southwest. Any thoughts on the large bead necklace, I know she bought that on a trip thru Colorado & Arizona. I have serious doubts about the turquoise jacla - the shells & turquoise bother me. The spiny oyster necklace with jacla looks ok, thoughts?
They appear to be rather modern pieces. The Jacia is a little off for how these were traditionally made.
Sometimes it is hard to tell if something is Native American made.
They are all very nice, whoever made them.
The first necklace has no handmade parts, all commercially manufactured; the whole of it is unlikely Native. Have you tested for silver?
The pair of jaclas is made of block, not turquoise; origins unclear.
The jacla necklace looks like things that often get sold as Kewa/SD, origins unclear.
Thank you for the reply chicfarmer. I was all but sure the ‘turquoise’ jacla wasn’t authentic, I never saw one with those types of shells and the turquoise is all too perfect.
I did a quick online search and found several pieces, one quite similar another an exact match and am more than shocked at the prices, $200 - $300. I was going to toss it, hmmm
be careful using online auction sites as evidence of value - too many ill-informed sellers out there asking turquoise prices for the equivalent of plastic.
