I found this silver overlay pin at a U.K. market. I believe it’s by Bernard Dawahoya the Hopi silversmith. I couldn’t find the picto mark on art-anerindien (3 other marks for him) but found a bracelet on Mark Sublette’s Medicine Man Gallery by him with the same mark. Hoping a Hopi expert on this site can confirm the maker and give me a possible valuation. Thank you.
Hi ~ Nice roadrunner pin. This info is from Bille Hougart’s book “Native American and Southwestern Silver Hallmarks”.
Could it be any of these? I have to head for work, so don’t have time to check my Hopi Silversmithing book right now.
@JonT Here’s info from the book by Margaret Nickelson Wright, “Hopi Silver The History and Hallmarks of Hopi Silversmithing” (Revised Edition). The last name looks to have a typo in this listing.
I’m thinking you might want to check this artist out also (Patrick Lomawaima). I wasn’t thinking his hallmark didn’t look much like yours, until I saw this on Medicine Man gallery site. The mark here doesn’t look like it was struck as deeply; maybe that’s what happened with yours. Most of his things I found had a guild mark with it, but this one does not.
When Steve put the two roadrunners side by side, they do look a lot alike, except one is in reverse with the etching inside the roadrunner.
Whatever the case I really love your little roadrunner.
Great Hopi piece with superb workmanship.
