Bisbee or Godber?

This weekend, there’s a small street market about 5min from my home. A few booths have NA jewelry, with Navajo running the them. As I was perusing one booth, I came across this ring, stamped CB, made by Cindy Begay.

Do you guys think it’s Bisbee? I’m very doubtful, but one never knows.

I don’t know either, however, Godber Bisbee isn’t a type of turquoise that I’m aware of, but Godber Burnham is so… :person_shrugging: It doesn’t quite hit me as Bisbee, but I totally could be wrong on this ring. I do know it’s gorgeous!

Wow did my voice texting butcher that, good thing I always check to see what it types

I don’t want to say it’s not Bisbee either. Is there any pyrite in it? I’d love to see what @Jason thinks about these stones.

Yeah….that’s why I’m confused. It isn’t both, lol. And the lady running the stand knew some of the types of turquoises, but definitely not all.

These two rings were also there. Cindy made the big cluster, her son (now deceased) made the long one.

@Ziacat I couldn’t see any pyrite, but who knows. The brown was - I think - not normal for Bisbee. I’ve spent A LOT of time looking at real Bisbee in person the last few days. I really don’t think this is Bisbee. If it is, it’s an unusual type. But, there are more knowledgeable people in this group.

Gorgeous. I love the big round rings, but the elongated ones look better on my hands. Gosh I can’t wait to get out west in April, and spend some cash!

I have a buckle from my mom that I believe has a nice Bisbee stone in it. I didn’t know that, but a very knowledgeable person who fixed it (stone was loose) was sure of it. However it’s what’s considered to be smokey Bisbee so it has a very different look than this ring. I will say Bisbee is known for its chocolate brown matrix, but I’m with you that this one just doesn’t look quite like what I’ve seen of Bisbee; The matrix seems…not quite right. But I am definitely no expert!

@Ziacat I was chatting with a local silversmith today, and showed them a photo of Bisbee cabs I had purchased from a local (and reputable) turquoise seller. Not from the gem show. That person immediately said one of the cabs was not Bisbee, and questioned the other two…. There’s so much variation, it’s difficult to know for sure about any turquoise I think.

All I’ll say about the ring in question is this one time I didn’t immediately think “Kingman” :joy:

Beautiful dark stones. It is difficult to tell exactly what you have there, but if forced to call it something I would suggest Pilot Mountain.

@Jason, Thank you for your input! I spent last evening scouring the web for images of Godbur turquoise, and nothing I saw looked remotely like this ring. And if it was Bisbee, it was unusual. I’m not sad I passed it up.

Thanks, Jason for your thoughts. Pilot Mountain crossed my mind.

I agree it doesn’t look like Bisbee, plus as @Ziacat said there’s no such thing as Godbur Bisbee (and it looks like all the same mine), so their attribution is extremely suspect. Don’t know what it is though

On Instagram look at santafeturquoise and topgradeturquoise to see what godber burnham looks like

@Emily thanks for the tip! If anything, I think the cabs in the ring look similar to the two dark pieces of Red Mountain in this image below. Definitely NOT Bisbee or Godbur.
