I purchased this ring fairly recently and have really been enjoying it. My original thought about the turquoise was Chinese but now I’m not sure. Most of my blue pieces are dark blue Cloud Mountain and the other lighter blue isn’t as bright a blue as this. That made me start wondering if it might be Kingman. It also has a worn hallmark that I think is D L. I’m still trying to figure that out too. I got some outside pictures today to go with the others. I would love some feedback about the turquoise and if anyone is familiar with the hallmark I would love to know. Thanks for your help.
Beautiful. I love the stmaping on the bezel. The turqupise is similar to a variety of Kingman, but also looks like what comes form some other mines.
Sorry, I cannot helpo with the hallmark.
@Islandmomma Your new turquoise ring is fabulous! That square shape cab is a beauty and the design showcases it perfectly. Imo, the lovely turquoise is Chinese Cloud Mountain. (I’m just not getting a Kingman vibe.)
Nice ring @Islandmomma! I also am thinking this is not blackweb Kingman, but it’s pretty darn nice turquoise; I’m thinking Chinese…for what it’s worth I have a Hubai cuff with very similar appearing heavy black web turquoise.
This is my blackweb Kingman ring by Steve Arviso:
Thanks everyone. Ive done some more looking around the web at reliable places and I’m back to Chinese too. Of course in doing so I created another confusion for myself. I pulled out an older ring that I bought from a woman on FB. I was thinking it was Kingman (she gave me its history) so I compared the two and they are nothing alike. I’ve been wearing it for hours and now I think she told me it was spiderwebbed #8. The artist was Michael Carroll who was active in the 40’s through 60’s. I
tried to find the old messenger post but had no luck. Anyway, I took a picture of the two side by side and I’ll post it just for the heck of it. @Bmpdvm your ring is gorgeous!
Both of your rings have gorgeous turquoise; of course your square ring with the fabulous setting is my favorite! I’m not at all knowledgable on old blackweb No. 8, however in my opinion your ring is not No. 8. Years ago (in the 1980’s?) I recall the No. 8 I saw was blackweb, not the gold/tan matrix, light blue turquoise common today. I’m attaching a picture of some blackweb No. 8 rings from the C G Wallace collection. The picture is from the March 2022 Waddell Gallery opening catalog (concurrent with the Heard Museum Indian Market). I had planned on purchasing the top right ring and had the gallery hold it for me, but it was smaller than I’d envisioned, so I passed. There rings are a great example of the wonderful old No. 8.
