Calvin Begay Earrings?

I was driving back to Tucson from El Paso this morning and stopped at one of the “old trading posts” to look for a birthday gift for a friend.

I found these spiny, onyx, and opal inlay earrings for myself. I probably paid too much, but I like them, so who cares.

They are both marked Calvin Begay Sterling and the copyright symbol on the back. After I purchased I did a quick search of the forum and found all the posts and comments about questionable Calvin Begay jewelry.

My question is do you guys think these are “fakes”? I’m not really bothered either way, because I think they’re pretty and unique, but now I’m curious after thinking about it most of the day. Thanks for your help!

Suggest you call the shop and ask for documentation, e.g chain of custody, any proof they have that these earrings are actually the work of Begay. If they can’t provide it, it’s reasonable to assume the claims of origin/authenticity should be disregarded.

@mmrogers Thank you!! That’s kind of what I assumed.
