Can anyone identify the source of this piece? Articulated necklace, the mark on the back is merely “Taxco”

Taxco is a major center of Mexican jewelry production. So this is Mexican. Looks like abalone beads with a serpentine or Mexican jade carved pendant representing an ancient mask.

the back reads “Mosaica Azteca, Castillo Taxco,” so that much I’ve got. It’s probably from the 1940s - my grandparents collected Mexican art around that time. This might belong in a different category on this site - I’m hoping someone’s seen something like it.

the head is ~ 2" the necklace part is short, hanging the pendant at the throat.
