Carlin Black Matrix -55+years ago-NEED HELP ON HALLMARK

The artist hallmark on the back of a piece of jewelry tells us who made that piece. This category is for the Turquoise People community to help put a name to that hallmark.

Hello All,

So happy I found your forum. I would like to know if anyone can identify the hallmark on my necklace. Bought 1968-70 in northern NM from an artist (pueblo?) around Santa Fe and San Ildefonso area.

Have searched for the hallmark-no luck. Turquoise stone has been identified for Carlin Black Metrix.

Many thanks for any information you may have or know.

Enjoying your forum, anne

@anne Hi & Welcome. That’s beautiful turquoise! I kind of see “CH” as a possible hallmark but, that’s only a guess. I checked my Bille Hougart’s book on “Native American and Southwestern Silver Hallmarks” unfortunately, there’s no CH that matches your hallmark. I haven’t heard of Carlin turquoise before, though, a quick search indicates it’s from NV. If you don’t mind me asking, who identified this as Carlin Black Matrix turquoise? Also, you may want to try using Google Lens for assistance in identifying this hallmark.

Thanks Patina,

interesting you see CH. and thanks for your “welcome”.

I have had these pieces for over 55 years-bought directly from a artist-perhaps a pueblo artist! ? he was an independent artist in the late 60’s.

After searching and contacting regarding the “type” of turquoise i recently received in person! that identified yes to the carlin black matrix stone. the mine closed years ago -
