Hello everyone,
I’m hoping to get some information on this cuff which I’ve had for decades. I have small wrists but it’s still not fit me well. Apparently it was acquired when I was a youth, and came back to me 50 years later through my sister. I treasure it but don’t wear it because it slips off easily. Thanks!
This style of row bracelet is very popular, yours has this unique slanted presentation. Single row are popular because they can be stacked. It definitely has age and that nice aged silver look, and those stones show both green and blues. It is not uncommon for this age of piece to not be hallmarked. I would think you would see this in a store here in Gallup around $600.
Thanks, I appreciate your chiming in! Good to know the value too. Can I presume it is a Zuni cuff then?
Also would you guess a date range on this piece? Thanks
Probably 50’s to 60’s. Yes, it is Zuni. It’s beautiful. When you say it doesn’t fit, do you mean that it’s too small since you say it is child’s size? It actually doesn’t look terribly small in the picture.
I had to reread it. She says it slips off. Maybe it was always too big and that’s why her sister had it?
Thanks for your reply. Good to know. Re: the fit, I don’t know. I have small flat wrists, 6” circumference and the bracelet fits snugly. As you see in the photos it sits off center on top when it fits underneath. If i center it on top, it keeps slipping off. I’ll try wearing it more as it fits and see if it stays on. I just don’t want to lose it.
do you have a cloth tape measure?
check the measurement from each end in to the 1st row of turquoise
it looks a little wonky
Most of my cuffs do that. I buy them to fit because I don’t like them loose but during the course of the day they usually work to the side.
It’s beautiful! Some of mine roll around, but never fall off. Some members on here have mentioned putting a piece of moleskin on the back side to make it fit tighter. You probably wouldn’t want to do that since you can see though it, but maybe on the side pieces?
Yes, only have a pro that works with Native jewelry do anything. Bending it can loosen the stones.
Yep, I see by your photos better that it’s “wonky”. I’ll look into having it refitted. The sides do measure the same, ends to first stones @ 1 5/8”. Thanks for taking the time to advise me, I appreciate it.
Thank you! Good advice, I’ll look into it.
See my reply below, and many thanks!
Yup, I agree with @Steve–it needs to be professionally refitted. It actually doesn’t look like a terrible fit for you size wise, but the problem I think is that it is too round. If you look at your image above which looks straight down at the outline, you can see it is quite round in shape. Cuffs should be more oval or oblong in shape to fit around the wrist. The part under the stones needs to be flattened, which will make space side to side. Then the sides can come in, which will close the gap and make it less likely to fall off. The gap definitely looks to big for your wrist. But as Zia said make sure you have someone experienced with Native jewelry do this.
I see what you mean. I’ll check it out, thanks so much.
