Cool Snake Bracelet

I love this thing, even if it’s too small for me and you only see the head and very top of the tail. The workmanship is amazing, and I’m happy to have it.

Very cool bracelet! Really like how the band is made to resemble scales. I can see fangs, too. I luv snake jewelry.

I’m waiting from a book that references it. Apparently, it’s from 1890-1900 according to the seller and is from the collection of Lynn Trusdale in New Hope, PA.

Neat piece. Is it copper?

Checking Bonham’s website who handled Lynn Trusdell’s estate auction in 2009, I did find snake bracelets in her collection, but unfortunately, yours was not one of them. I was hoping to find some provenance for you.

Congrats on your killer snake bracelet!

I believe this is in Paula Baxter’s Southwest Silver Jewelry: The First Century. I’m away from my library, so I can’t verify that.

I’m a big proponent of performing my own research and critical thinking, so don’t take my word for it; but if you purchased it from who I think you did, you can rest assured, count on the attribution and trust the provenance. While I consider him mostly renowned for his dealings in Oceanic and Tribal material, he has handled pieces from major Native American collections, and, truthfully, is heavily involved in dealing items from many indigenous cultures.

Congrats again! :+1:

Yes, it’s from your suspect and I feel comfortable purchasing from people exactly like him.

It’s ingot silver. She certainly had a nice collection. I’d take any of those. To quote the late, great Jim Stafford:

“And she said, “I don’t like spiders and snakes
And that ain’t what it takes to love me
You fool, you fool
I don’t like spiders and snakes
And that ain’t what it takes to love me
Like I wanna be loved by you”

That being said, I LOVE spiders and snakes!

I’ve ordered that book…once I get it, I’m going to cut out the page and toss the rest of the book away (just kidding).

Thanks! In some of your photos, the lighting gave it a copper color. It’s really a great piece. I’ve come back to look at it a few times. :+1:

Its the dang lighting from my old lamp. Next time I go out in the world, I’ll take some pictures in direct sunlight.
