Dan Jackson Spiderweb Turquoise Bear Penant

Won this one tonight. Really like the silver work -really love the stone. Think I’ve narrowed the turquoise down to either ZHUXI MINE, Hubei - Dragon Skin?

ZHUXI%20MINE%20%2CHuBei%20province%2CCHINA%20

or what Crazy Horse Indian Jewelry, Jackson Hole, WY listed in 1960s 1970s collection as Brown Spiderweb, Bisbee Ariz - found here (See photo link #14 at the bottom of webpage)jacksonholedesigns.com/Turquoise/

It looks like this piece of Bisbee shown on Durango Silver Co site here

Also, looks like a stone is missing from the bear’s eye. Really not sure -will know better when I get it home. If missing what would you replace it with?

Looked around and don’t find more than 3 or 4 pendants for sale or that were sold recently made by Mr. Jackson. Couldn’t find another animal pendant anywhere so thinking aren’t many out there. Looks like one of the artist’s earlier maker’s mark?

Any ideas of what stone is and value. Thanks all, sara

Approx.
Pendant: 1 3/4 x 1 1/2 in
Stone .6 x .4 in - 15x11mm

Turquoise appears to be Chinese. The bear doesn’t appear to be handmade, either. Sorry I’m not familiar with the artist. But I wouldn’t pay more than a few dollars to replace the eye. But that’s just my opinion :woman_shrugging:t2:

Jackson specializes in this type of textured jewelry

Here is a short bio on the artist…

What I believe to be early hallmark recorded as
Dan Jackson Navajo… Indian Native American jewelry marks

I believe this is his and worth the investment of the few I paid. Will post better pic when it arrives. If it’s missing the eye prob send off to Durango Silver for repair if they will do.

Thanks for your input as always : )

I believe the Dan Jackson you are referencing (the rug pattern) is a different Dan Jackson than the one who made your piece. The Dan Jackson who made the rug pattern jewelry uses this mark.

The “Jackson” hallmark you showed a picture of, made jewelry in this specific style:

Who knows? Both types of jewelry are in the style of overlay. And Jackson is a common last name. They could very well be the same artist. I hope someone more knowledgeable than I can confirm. Artists change their hallmarks over time.

I was able to get on my PC and zoom in on the pictures. I think I am wrong about it not being handmade. The stamping shows varying levels of depth, which makes me think that it is in fact handmade.

You may be right -these may be different Jacksons - Either way looks Navajo. Hope for more help on this one : )

Bears always make a cool piece of jewelry. Looking at the piece I would never think of Dan Jackson work, but anything is possible. I can show him this piece the next time I see him and get some feedback. The stone is a piece of Chinese turquoise. I would guess a stone wasn’t in the eye and if one was I wouldn’t worry about getting that replaced. Value really depends on the artist.

close-up of the pretty stone

I showed this to Dan and he said it wasn’t his. Maybe work on eliminating Tommy, an early piece of his? He does have a history of bear pendants.

Thanks for your time and Tommy tip. Sara

May be it’s a different Dan? Sent a note over to the Indian Native American Jewelry Artists & South West Shop Hallmarks site to ask if they know if artist listed as (Dan Jackson Navajo)
jackson-dan-navajo
is different person.
