Hi- I’m just trying to figure out the tribe and approx value. Magnet doesn’t pick anything up/ it is silver, hollow beads, light weight, only markings are on the cone part of the clasp, tarnished - has a brassy like tone on part of it . . . thanks
It’s a Navajo style necklace, but that doesn’t mean it’s necessarily Navajo made. It’s a 70’s necklace, with machine made round beads (which became very common and way outnumbered hand made beads on squash blossoms starting in the 70’s) and the leaf silver work (also very popular in the 70’s). Native American style jewelry exploded in popularity at this time, and as a result everyone started making it, including Natives and non Natives. This is lower quality work; the naja is very simple made of two wires and the leaf plates are the only other part that’s hand made, soldered onto and strung with store bought components. The turquoise and coral are in my opinion the best part about it; the turquoise looks to be natural showing some color change and from what I can tell looks to be nice coral, too.
I’m not sure about value as I don’t collect this type of material and I’m not a precessional reseller or appraiser. Maybe a few hundred?
