Draw Plate
A steel plate with a series of graduated holes. Round, half round and square. Heavy wire is annealed, greased, and pulled through the holes in decreasing order, forming wire of smaller sizes. It takes a great deal of force and some smiths mounted their draw plates in the crotch of a tree, pulling the wire with hefty tongs or pliers.
