Hi everyone! I also picked up this chain where I purchased my battery bird. There was a large Taxco pendant on it. It didn’t look like Mexico jewelry to me. After further research I think it might be Ed Aguilar. Is anyone familiar with his work? Did he sign his necklaces?
If I am remembering correctly, he is one of only one or two people who make Handmade liquid silver necklaces. Every one of those beads is made by hand. they are definitely thicker than your normal liquid silver and I think they’re fairly pricey.
Thanks Islandmomma! I do love the chain. It has a very nice feel to it, and I was wondering if the beads were hand made.
Yes @chris, I have no doubt yours is by Ed Aguilar. He Is known for his hand pulled bead chains. Ed made round tubular chains, but came to be known for his signature square chains, referred to as the “Aguilar Chain”. He was self taught and to my knowledge he is the only person who did this technique. I have several of Aguilar chains which I wear frequently. He made the hand pulled bead chains in both silver and gold; the cutting and stringing required a great deal of time effort and patience. I’ve only seen the square beads in silver. Ed passed away in the mid-2000s (I’ve seen differing dates); others attempted to make the square beads, but found it too time consuming.
Yes Ed did sign some of his chains, but not all. My multistrand necklace and earrings are signed on the cone; one a tiny stamp and one tiny hand signed:
Thank you so much!! I loved seeing your chains! That pendant is a good choice for the chain. I like how the geometric pattern in the pendant compliments the beads on the chain!
Well, evidently I lied
. Just found a gold Aguilar chain. Picture is from Hoel’s. Pendant is by Leo Yazzie. Wow!
Oooh! I want one of those too! Now I know what I am looking for!![]()
