Hello there, hope everyone is well, just looking at this ring, I’ve been trying to find information about it, been searching through Bille Hougart 5th edition and online, but I just can’t seem to find anything
@BigCountryUK Hi & Welcome. Nice looking turquoise & coral ring. I see the hallmark slightly differently: Perhaps FFB or FFR. (The last letter doesn’t look like a “P” to me
.)
Luke. This is a piecework ring. Likely Navajo made, but the type of work where trading companies provide silver and stone to a silversmith with a pattern or idea, and the instructions “ Make me something like this, there should be enough material for 20 plus a bit extra, Bring me the rings and scrap when you’re finished. I’m paying $5 each for these, $6 if you can get them to me by Teusday. Be sure to take good care of the scap and filings becaue I’ll weigh it all in when you bring it back, and deduct any shortages from your pay for this order”. It’s exceedingly rare that one can track down the maker for this type of merchandise, and honestly, usually a complete waste of time.
An easy tell is that this is a piece that was made in a hurry. Take note that the shank was soldered on slightly crooked, and the silversmith didn’t take the time to correct it (although they clearly had the skill to do so).
Thank you, I thought so, I looked at the soldering like you send in a previous post, but I doubted myself, thank you for helping
