Very confusing! But it’s been another fun rabbit hole to go down ![]()
Those are fabulous! I would love to come across one that beautiful some day! Wear them in good health!
Looking at all these questions, all I can say is that I dearly hope someone will take up the banner of the late Bille Hougart and continue to catalogue all these artists and their marks!
Beautiful i love it, woukd love to buy one
Charlie John is probably in his late 60s early 70s. He is actually from the area around Dilkon, Arizona not far from Winslow. He has made jewelry for a very long time and this style probably reminds you a little of Steven J Begay, they were acquaintances. Like many silversmiths that are that right age during the 1970s (those just starting) and from the Winslow area their was a good chance that they worked in Tommy Singer’s shop, like Steven Begay did. I don’t know if Charlie John did but he is the right age and from the right area. Also, Charlie John would not be a unique name.
Thanks for the info. I really like his work so I have researched him a bit. I have visited Dilkon, and since then had read he was from there.
Thank you all for your kind comments. I appreciate those of you have done research and shared your findings. I hope to be able to visit the areas of Arizona that meant so much to my dad later in the spring
I have discovered that Charlie John’s father’s uncle was William Singer who was the brother of Tommy. I am now 99% certain these bolos were created by Charlie John. I have emailed him to be sure but have not received a reply as of this morning. There is a wonderful interview with CJ @ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o-h_0_-F8lI
Please let us know if and what you hear back from him!
I’ve watched that video, and it is a good one; thanks for linking it.
