I purchased this lovely necklace a number of years ago and recently decided to sell it. The original seller confirmed that Herman Martinez made the piece, but the person I’ve engaged to sell it (a reputable dealer) says that her research leads her to believe it was made by Harry Martinez. I checked online and all of the pieces I found with the “H. Mtz.” hallmark are attributed to Harry Martinez. I know artists can change hallmarks over the course of their career, but do some artists ever adopt the exact same hallmark as another (not just initials but typeface too)? Interested in your thoughts. I stand by the original seller who says it was made by Herman Martinez, but how can that same hallmark be attributed to Harry by so many?

Herman and Harry Martinez are older brothers to Calvin Martinez. He says that both make jewelry but that this is Harry’s work and hallmark.

Well I’ll be. Thanks Jason! All I can say is when this came up I rechecked with the original seller, a long standing, reputable gallery that has been operational in Albuquerque for scores of years, and they confirmed it was Herman, a second time. But If you just checked with Calvin and he’s family, I guess that trumps all.
I’ve long admired Calvin’s work and he’s on my list of people to collect from! Thanks again. I learn something new every day.
