I don’t have the item in hand yet, but i can tell you i got it for nearly nothing, and i think it was misidentified as well. this is on the end of what looks like a hand made sterling barrel bead (there are four on the 24" necklace), between large elongated turquoise beads. I’ll share full pics when i receive it. even if it’s not legit, i still got it for a steal and will wear the heck out of it. Thanks!
@Jemez2 Hi ~ I feel like I can see “Coriz” stamped in the barrel bead. I checked my Hougart’s Hallmarks book for the Coriz name - focusing especially on that letter “r”. Just a thought - you may want to check out the work of Brihilda/Frank Coriz (Kewa). (At least the Coriz portion of their hallmark looks similar to yours, imo.) Always a delight to get a super good deal on jewelry! Looking forward to the full photos.
the turquoise is verry glassy sounding when clicked against each other or my teeth. all four barrel beads are stamped N. Coriz. I can’t find a pic of the hallmark in Hougart 4th.
Nestoria?? It seems she may have changed hallmarks over her long career? Hougart says she used N Coriz (no photo) but an online search for her name shows her using NP Coriz.
Should i start hunting for the pendant? Should I contact the owner of Best of Zuni to see if/when they sold the piece? I did a brief search looking for recent thefts, came up with nothing.
What have i got here? What’s it worth? (i know yall can’t actually answer that last one)
I’m excited for you! What a find! It sure does look like the site’s strand minus the pendant. Do note that the website hasn’t been updated since 2019, so whether he’s still active in the business is a question. At least you have a “cousin” piece to form a guesstimate of what the necklace alone might have cost at retail a few years back. Maybe @Jason can give his opinion.
About adding a pendant, well, it does look fab that way! And also lovely as is.
Yes, that’s really her name. Lovely necklace and fantastic price. I have several pieces by her but in a different style. Her son Daniel is also a bead maker and I have a couple of his pieces too. Some are unsigned but I have talked to her on the phone and she has confirmed them. I hope you get lots of enjoyment from your pretty new necklace. If you watch, you may actually find a matching pendant.
