Heading to AZ, yay! But need help

Ooooh, Banff and Jasper, so beautiful. We were there maybe 20 years ago, and I would love to get back. Canada has so many beautiful places. My dream is to get to the Yukon someday.

Glad you enjoyed the thread!

You need to see the mountains of SW VA. It is beautiful here in spring and October.

Ooh, VA and Yukon are sadly so far off my plan. Can’t see the whole world in only 12 months. If I find more cool stuff in the SE of the US, I can combine VA with the Little Pine Garnet Mine.

I’m going to jump back in and say that the Great Lakes are amazing. They’re actually one of the most unusual things in the world, and they’re one of the reasons I could never leave this area. I equate them with the Grand Canyon  Lake Superior is the largest freshwater lake in the entire world. And the dunes on Lake Michigan, unglaublich!! (there’s a little German for ya, my father-in-law used to say that a lot, even though he was French descent )

Definitely Lake Superior!

The Little Pine Garnet mine is one of me and my son’s favorites. They don’t let you enter the mine anymore because someone went in with power tools and stripped out most of the garnets. But there are plenty in the spoil piles nearby.

A little update about dinosaur tracks. My nephew was home for Christmas, and was telling us about finding more tracks at CO National Monument. He and the park’s paleontologist were investigating another large track (like the one in my above pics), when they started seeing bunches. There were big and small tracks all together with the implication being it was a family. Coolest of all they found some fossilized skin! My nephew said it’s only about the fifth verified find of this in North America. He showed us some pictures, but he couldn’t send them to me, because they’re keeping the location under wraps for now, so they can continue to research without the sight being disturbed. But he might be able to take hubby and me to the site when we visit. I thought this was so fascinating!

Wow, never knew you can find these. Googled it

Will research a little and find out which one is easiest to be integrated in my tour. The Dinosaur National Monument is far from everything …

Have decided to see

  • Withers Canyon Dinosaur Footprints (Comanche National Grassland)
  • Dinosaur Ridge next to Denver

There are also some really cool dinosaur tracks near Tuba City, AZ on the road that heads towards Kayenta and Monument Valley (Highway 160, not far past the turnoff from Highway 89). You need to get a Navajo guide to take you to them, but when we did it there were children around ready and willing.

This is me there…a long time ago, probably about 1994.

Edit: the link says you are not required to take a Navajo guide, but they recommend it.

Yep! One of my earliest cuffs. First thing I ever bought when I discovered my favorite pawn shop in Flag. I’m practically never without my Native American jewelry
