Thank You All.

Hi there. It’s impossible to definitively state origin without some kind of provenance, but my two cents are:
This type of construction—woven a bit like a basket weave—is a very common technique in Southeast Asian silver work, particularly contemporary Thai, Cambodian, and Indonesian material. If you google “Thai woven silver jewelry” or “Indonesian woven silver” or similar, you’ll see pieces with a (superficially, at least) similar construction—the weaving, the folded over terminals before the gap. As far as metal content, you’ll need to do some kind of test to determine that definitively but, anecdotally, my Thai and Indonesian pieces are made from pure silver (not sterling or another alloy) and this seems to be common in Southeast Asian work. If it IS Southeast Asian, it has value as wearable silver jewelry but is likely not a precious antique.
I’d hasten to add that I’m not “diagnosing” your bracelet, just sharing some impressions; however, if I saw your piece in a shop, I wouldn’t suspect it to be Native American and would be uneasy if a dealer said it was.
If you are very allergic to wearing nickle then i’d like to advice you to purchase a silver testing kit. It’s fairly cheap, about $20 and with it you can test many items and be sure whether they are silver or not.
Great idea @Bluegreen . There are also several nickel test kits available that can detect nickel down to 10ppm. If a severely allergic, that might be the way to go.
I agree with @riobravo.
But there’s no way to know what this is, unless you find an identical item elsewhere with positive confirmation.
One thing for sure, it isn’t NA.
Thank You So Much!!! I immediately went to google and typed what you suggested and I have found many basket weave cuffs now and there are Thai ones that are very similar! I appreciate your time to help. I gained more knowledge about the cuff with your help than many google image searches… I just was lost on style and everything.
Again. Many thanks
Thank You for the suggestion. I will definitely try that, it would save me the discomfort as it usually takes me a couple of hours… if not a few mins at times to be able to tell! If I don’t pay attention to the discoloration on my skin and take it off promptly-when it itches, it’s too late:sweat_smile: so that would be very valuable to have. Appreciate the info! ![]()
Thank you ! I am going to look into both of these options. It seems it would be very beneficial for me. As I could know beforehand and not be heartbroken when I have purchased something that was suppose to be old & sterling to find out it definitely is not & I can’t fully enjoy the piece. This cuff doesn’t bother me at all, it just has a lot softer feel to it than any of my others.
Thank You.
You’re very welcome! I’m glad to have been of help. Enjoy your bracelet! ![]()
