I came across this piece while thrifting. I’ve been hoping to find a nice hat band, but I think this is much more than I could have hoped for! I looked behind each piece, hoping for a clear mark, but I have only found partial markings. I don’t want to take anything apart and the backsides are really a mess. I am including photos of the piece and what I found on the backside of one of the silver pieces. Is there any chance anyone can ID this for me? I’d love to know all about it! It has a home with me on my black felt cowboy hat, and I can’t wait to wear it! Thanks so much!

Quite a find! This looks like a handmade sterling silver hatband or small concha belt. From the style and leatherwork it looks like it could have been made at any time from the 50s or 60s to the 70s, 80s, or 90s. The character of the piece suggests to me that it was made by some of the old Taos, Santa Fe, Arizona, or Colorado silversmiths who started working seriously in this styke in the late 60s. Still plenty of them around today, so no telling when it was actually made. It’s a keeper for sure.
