Help identifying bird in cuff & meaning if any

I love birds so I put in a low bid on this and won it for a good price. I think it’s a bird anyway! If it is, what do you think it is, and does it have any significant meaning?

Also, I’ve never heard of the artist, Willie Archie Talahaftewa, but I’m pretty new to collecting, so no surprise. Would this be Hopi?

Thank you so much for posting this. I have my students do a Native American story telling art lesson with symbols but I haven’t seen these.

Thank you to everyone! This is so interesting. That hallmark is in the bracelet. I can’t wait to get it! I can’t believe no one else bid on it.

Very impressive!! Are these done on hide of some sort?

@AC, they are done on brown paper that has been crinkled and straightened out about 10 times to imitate animal hide.

Impressive work to my eyes. I think you should brag about the students.
