Hi! I have a shadowbox pendant with a cluster of four turquoise stones, and I would like help identifying the maker. The only hallmark I’ve found that is similar is one attributed to Mary Morgan on a necklace for sale online, but that one doesn’t look like all the other Mary Morgan hallmarks I’ve seen in the books. I haven’t found it in the hallmark books I’ve been looking through either. My mom found it three years ago in her local pawnshop (she lives in Utah if that helps) and bought it for me knowing I love turquoise. The top two pictures are my necklace, and the bottom one is the hallmark I found online that looks similar. Thanks in advance for any help!
Beads and the pendant are done by different artists. I don’t have my books nearby, but somethings making me think Al Somers (?) on pendant. Is the hallmark on the beads an M or ML conjoined? Beautiful set!
Are those the same strand of beads? The ones on the pendant appear to have vertical seams which is usually an indication of non-silver manufacturing. The ones you are showing with the hallmark appear to be handmade NA.
Good catch! The beads in the first photo also look more round.
I thought the first few photos of were Erin’s necklace. The last was another one that was attributed to Mary Morgan, based on the hallmark.
Right, the first two are my necklace, and the last one is a picture of the closest hallmark match I’ve found online and in the book I looked through
So the beads with the pendant (if we are seeing the photo correctly) may not be Native made. Like @Islandmomma said, on Native made beads the seam is horizontal; these appear vertical.
I don’t think it’s an Al Sommers, his hallmark doesn’t look like the one on my pendant. Here are some better pictures of the beads - I don’t know really anything about older turquoise, but the beads don’t look like the same style as, say, the handmade Navajo pearls I have. I assumed the beads were added at some point by someone other than the artist.
