I inherited a small horde of jewelry from my grandfather. I am told that the turquoise is “Bisbee” Turquoise, set on silver. The jewelry is not visibly hallmarked, my understanding is that my grandfather bought the jewelry at one of those jewelry conventions in the early-mid 70s. Based on my research it may have been from Sunwest Silver? (Not confirmed and grandma doesn’t remember.)
Don’t mind the Jade ring, that’s not what I’m here for answers on.
(UPDATED)
The cuff is 5.8 oz according to a “precision” weight watchers kitchen scale
I didn’t know he owned anything like this, he never had come off as a jewelry guy, turquoise and jade have some significance in meso-American culture is what I’ve recently come to learn.
Welcome to the forum @Duelstar. You’ve inherited some nice pieces. That cuff is special, with it’s beautiful stones, seemingly refined craftsmanship, and an absolutley stunning patina. Do you have access to a precision scale? I know at least a few of us would be curious as to it’s gram weight. If you decide to polish it, please don’t share the photos
I lightly cleaned the cuff, here’s a photo of the craftsmanship from the side. I can try to take them to a consignment shop to see if they can give me the info on the scale?
Wow! The bright blues strike me as either Bisbee or Godber Turquoise… Blue Diamond Turquoise older stock can also come in that shade of blue against black. All 3 of those claims are very sought after with high price points that serious collectors will happily pay. Gorgeous group you inherited!
Appreciate it! What’s your experience with turquoise and the industry? You’ve named at least one mine that I’ve not heard of or read about in my research! This is why I came here and have stayed !
It certainly looks like Bisbee, but you can’t have absolute confirmation without having provenance from miner/artist/trusted seller. I have a buckle with what I am pretty sure is Bisbee, but if I were, for example, selling it I would not say it’s for sure Bisbee, because I have no proof.
Fair point! I have lots of habits like speaking and thinking in definitives and assigning “value” to rarity, all of which I am learning to leave at the door when I visit this site
