These are a few pieces that were passed down to me from my grandmother. I believe most are Navajo, but she doesn’t remember the stone types or who made them. I would love any info that I could pass along with these pieces to my kids in the future.
Are there marks on the back of any? Without hallmarks (that’s what the artists’ mark is called) it will be nearly impossible to tell who made them. And as far as which mine all the turquoise came from, it’s always an educated guess without actual provenance from the maker. I will say the turquoise in the pendant on the beads has a Bisbee look, but no way to know 100%. There are a lot of items in this thread, so I’m not going try to cover everything. The ring with a missing stone also could be Zuni.
I agree. Hard to determine specific mine. There is a thread here that shows turqupise from vrious mines. Check there and see if anything looks the same as your jewelry.
Please let us know if there are any marks on the backs.
I really like the ring with the flower in the middle. Have never seen anything like that before.
I was doing some searching on the bell trading post. It looks like they had different marking styles over the years. I’m looking now to see if I find a decent page with addition information on them.
If I am reading correctly this would be an earlier piece because of the bell? And the couple had other artists making their jewelry for them…so were they native or just the makers?
