Hello all,
I have a squash blossom necklace (or squash-style, at least) with Baltic amber, and the initials WB stamped. It’s stamped sterling, and there are scratched Roman numerals on the backs of the side blossoms, in an apparent stringing order. The beads are round with no seams. I also have another amber necklace, in a different style, that has the same WB stamp, and seamed beads. (That one actually has two maker’s marks on different part of the necklace.) I did a reverse image search, but there aren’t a lot of amber squash blossoms to compare.
I’d be grateful for any information or opinions. Thanks.
@Marlowe Hi & Welcome. This may be my first time seeing a SB necklace with amber stones. Just my 2 cents - the beads on both necklaces look machine made. I’m also leaning toward the contemporary necklace that we can see face-up as not being Native American made. What information can you share about these necklaces? Did you inherit them? Did you purchase them online, at an antiques store, or a Trading Post? This info may be helpful to the discussion.
Hi, @patina! Thanks so much for your reply. The necklaces were gifts. I have a relative who collects Native American jewelry and art, and I do have some nice genuine jewelry, but they also just get whatever strikes their fancy. I also have an unmarked cuff–I think it was just an amber year, lol. I have no idea where these were purchased. I’ve probably had them for about fifteen or twenty years.
The chunkier necklace has two hallmarks on separate amber pieces, and the earrings, so I’ve wondered if it might be an assemblage of two makers’ work. It “feels” older than the squash-style one, heavier and simpler.
It’s always nice to receive jewelry gifts! Seeing the 2nd SB necklace & earrings set, I’m inclined to think Anglo made. The necklaces look like they have yellow Baltic amber cabs. That cuff is super nice. The silver raindrops, twisted wire work and bezel style make me consider that it could be Native American made. Those are beautiful dark Baltic amber cabs. I hope that others will chime in with some information about your jewelry.
