Hi Everyone. My partner and I recently acquired a group of concho belts from an estate and are trying to get some information on them. They are sterling and appear to be different styles but have the same hallmark. I can’t find any information on the hallmark. Does anyone know anything about this hallmark or have any ideas on the artist for these pieces? Thank You!
was there any backstory from the seller about these belts?
how many belts with this same mark were available?
searching so far has not found a match to your belt or mark
the black areas seem like they are painted in
I agree, Steve, great call: it’s especially easy to observe on the bear concho.
Both belts look cast, to me. The belt that was made in Hopi style is clearly not crafted in such a manner, and the First Phase Revival belt has a few suspect areas: like the very narrow, raised border/center bar of the central opening and blemishes interfering with what should be relatively crisp stamp work on the rope border. I also feel casting is evidenced by the reverse of the hallmarked concho.
What are your thoughts, @mmrogers?
Closest I found was this…
Sorry, I couldn’t resist ![]()
Completely agree that it looks painted on. You can even see where it looks like it runs up the sides a bit.
I think you and @Steve called it correctly @Ravenscry. The black ‘paint’ looks like enamel or plate, and it’s likely a first hand examination would identify the overlay style stations as machine made. That first phase revival concho sure looks cast to me. I’d put money on it.
