A nice pair of Zuni hoops, wondering if anyone had input on the hallmark? I’m seeing a BE, and something that looks like O and an upside down T? Thanks!
Or if you turn it the other way it could be a TO, and then it looks kinda like an 8 to me.
Pretty earrings!
Shirley Bellson did great Zuni needlepoint jewelry, hallmark is JS Bellson. I turned up a listing of a DL Bellson, individual not listed in Hougart’s.
thanks, that’s a great hint!
I’m seeing a good bit by one Darrel Bellson, these are a match Tanner Chaney : Silver Jewelry Darrel Bellson Earrings 56245
Not familiar with Tanner Chaney (which doesn’t mean anything!), in ABQ
I appreciate the breadcrumbs, @chicfarmer !
I’ve shopped at Tanner Chaney in ABQ. It’s a good place; at least it was when I was there years ago. It’s one that was written up in my very good Southwest Trading Post Guidebook that I use all the time.
Just wanted to add some fun info.
This link is for the Ellis Tanner store in Gallup, and my guidebook says that the Tanner Chaney gallery is owned by the Tanner, Chaney, and Baker families. Tanner is very well-known name in four corners history. Tanner Rapids in the GC and Tanner Wash are names for Seth Tanner the original Mormon trader of this family. We have also shopped at Shush Yaz which means “little bear” - the nickname given by local natives to one of the sons; Seth Tanner was known as “Hosteen Shush.”
It’s fascinating history of the original traders.
Fun! We stopped by Ellis Tanner when we were in Gallup a few weeks ago
