It’s marked TE-05 925
I really appreciate it, thank you.
This is not Native American. It was made outside the USA.
It may not be turquoise. It was quickly made, not high quality.
What else do you need to know?
Yeah, I agree with @Stracci . The stone does not look like genuine turquoise, and NA jewelers almost never stamp 925 on their pieces. It’s usually stamped “sterling”. The 3rd point is that it was incredibly sloppily made, and NA jewelers take quite a bit more pride in their work and technique.
At least the sterling is meltable, and can be used for something else.
I appreciate you both taking the time to explain things to me. How can I tell if this is turquoise or something else?
The TE-05 is most likely Mexican but it is not listed in my book. There are a lot of unnamed bench jewelers that are hired to pump out as many items as they can. Probably similar to piece work.
Oh, ok that makes sense. Thank you very much. I have a ring that I know for sure is sleeping beauty turquoise and they look the same. I tested this one with a hot needle, and nail polish remover and it remained unchanged and color didn’t come off on the qtip.
It could be glass. The hot needle and q-tip will not affect glass.
It’s texture is not as smooth as glass.
What do you think it is?
I think it’s turquoise because I bought it at an auction that had a jeweler onsite who said it was, but I think it’s stabilized. I’m not sure of any of that so I’m going to take it to a gemologist eventually.
Let us know what the gemologist says
I will, I’ve been ill but as soon as I’m better.
