Good Day, I’m back with more questions on some of my pieces. I purchased both of these pieces for $45. They were a gift from the sellers great aunt that loves and collects turquoise jewelry. She said they were a set, so I figured they were made by the same artist. Would you agree with me? The ring is pretty worn and there are no marks on the inside of it. There is a makers mark in the bracelet but it’s not marked sterling. Do you think that they both are sterling? I am quite fond of this set, but I can only wear sterling or gold and it would be sad if I couldn’t wear this set. As always I really appreciate any information you give me. I will also add a picture of the makers mark as well. Thank you sooo much
I can only help with the maker, and that is Johnny Mike Begay. Nice bracelet, and definitely his style. The ring looks similar and may be made by him, but I am not sure of that. Oh and yes, that is sterling.
Thank you so much for your reply. I’m so glad to know that it is sterling for sure. I will look up the designer and see if I can find anything in the style of the ring. Thanks so much again
What a great pair! I would feel comfortable saying that they are a set. Great purchase.
Thanks so much! That’s great news!
Could you please share with me your thoughts on the stone and the age of the set? Thanks so much again for taking the time to reply and your kind words
Mike Begay was a Navajo jeweler active in the mid 20th century, until 1976 when he passed away. Specializing in flat work and boxes; he smithed for the White Hogan in Scottsdale.
I was thinking that these were more modern pieces, but it looks like they can be as early as the 1950’s! So that gives you an idea of the age. The stone looks it is either a waterwebbed Kingman or a bird’s eye Kingman.
Thank you so much! I really appreciate your help and information
